About this course

Course Information

Let’s first see how icing occurs on a surface, such as wing, of the aircraft. Usually clouds have no ice, but have super-cooled water droplets. When these droplets hit an aircraft surface, they change from liquid water to solid ice. If the temperature of the droplets is between 0°C and -10°C, then clear ice is produced on the surface. The clear ice build-up starts on the leading edge of the surface. This is the point where the droplets hit the surface. All of the droplets do not freeze immediately when they hit the leading edge. Some move along aft of the surface. This results in an ice layer which becomes larger, thicker and longer under this flying conditions. Courses are constantly monitored and updated when major changes in authority documentation is released.
